When Nobody's Looking - Miss Furry - 02-19-2026 Location: Gravy’s Boneyard
Office 3B
It’s not really an office. It’s a room with a desk that barely fits inside of it. And a chair. And a second chair that’s definitely worse. Miss Furry stands in the doorway holding a cardboard box that reads: MISS FURRY
also Miss Fury
She steps inside, sets the box down on the desk, and looks around with a nod. "Okay." Inside the box:
She picks up the frame.
She smiles a little at it and sets it down gently in the middle of the desk. Then moves it to the left. Then back to the middle. Then to the right. Then back again. "Middle’s probably better." A soft thump as her cat hops up onto the desk and knocks over the match graphic then sits directly on it. *MEOW*
She sighs. "Claw-dia!" She stares at her. Furry stares back. "You shouldn't be in here." She rubs her face against Furry's hand and begins to purr. Furry picks her up, holding her face to face under the front legs. "This is my office," she tells her. But the cat doesn't react. "I’m in charge of finding the next big thing." Still nothing. "That’s a real job, ya know?" She sets her down again. Claw-dia immediately walks across the desk and bats the pen onto the floor. *Clack*
She watches it fall. "Now that was on purpose!" Claw-dia begins investigating the folders. She moves them and scratches behind Claw-dia's ears. "So I’ve been thinking." Claw-dia leans into it. "Which I know is usually bad... But Triple Threats are weird. Nobody wins because they’re the best. They win because they picked the right moment to pounce." Claw-dia begins to purr. "You don’t have to beat everybody." She scratches a little slower. "You just have to be the one that takes it first. That's how I beat Oz. I allowed him comfort. Allowed him to forget what I had to prove. And then I snatched victory before he could. Summer’s going to want to prove she’s still on track. And John’s going to want to prove he belongs here at all. So they’re both going to get real comfortable thinking I’m not the problem." Claw-dia flops onto her side like this is the best conversation she’s ever been part of. "Momentum’s like… a thing, ya know?" Claw-dia just purrs louder. "Like if you lose enough in a row people stop saying ‘rough patch’ and start saying ‘pattern’. I'm sure Summer isn't trying to fall into a pattern of losing." Her cat rolls onto her back. She rubs her stomach. "And then John Blade debuting." She stops to ponder the new-comers situation. "Scary. Because if it goes well people remember your name. And if it doesn’t… well..." Claw-dia kicks her hand with her back legs. "So now it’s both of them fighting for the same thing." She leans against the desk. "One person trying to fix something. One person trying to start something. And only one of them can walk away with something" Claw-dia yawns. "A moment. Oz wanted one too. He just thought he had time to take it. Which just goes to show, you can’t have one of those if somebody else takes it from you first. So if Summer wants hers? She’s gotta stop John from having his. And if John wants his? He’s gotta make sure Summer doesn’t get there before him." She nods slowly like she’s proud of having figured that out. "And moments usually need impact." Claw-dia closes her eyes. "They both need impact, and when someone needs something bad enough... They usually start swinging at whoever's closest. Gravy taught me that." She lifts Claw-dia up again and hugs her a little tighter than she needs to. "Which is nice, because when two people are busy proving something? They usually forget about the one who isn't. And that's where I'll be. I mean… last match got me a job." She looks around again. The bad chair. At the slightly better chair. At the 4 1/2 inches between desk and wall. "At some point you gotta ask if becoming the next big star is the goal…" The cat squirms. "…or if finding the next big star is." She sets Claw-dia down. "Maybe that’s my thing?" And starts unpacking the rest of the box. "Maybe I’m better at noticing stuff than I am at doing stuff." The stapler on the left. The notebook on the right. "Cats don’t chase unless they have to, ya know?" She glances down at Claw-dia who is chewing on the corner of a folder. "They wait. Because when it comes to cats, whoever moves first usually gets pounced, and whoever gets pounced isn't getting up before the count." She takes the folder back. "Some think cats are lazy, but really—they just conserve energy." She sits in the better chair. *SQUEEEEEK*
"And then when something finally forces them to move…" She shrugs. "They move once." Claw-dia jumps down and heads for the door. Furry watches her leave. "Me? I'm not the one with anything to prove." She reaches for the framed graphic and adjusts its position one more time. "Because I've already proven that I can win when nobody is looking. So instead, maybe I let this unfold between them? Unless I see reason to move, that is..." Then heads out after Claw-dia. The door stays open. The notebook shifts slightly in the draft. Just enough to flip the page and a sketch underneath it to becomes visible. A rough-sketched self-portrait. Miss Furry. Standing on the turnbuckle. Arms raised. Holding a championship high over her head as a Chiba Gravy emotes hearts from ringside. |
