Best Buddies Town Hall - Jeffrye421 - 10-09-2026 The scene opens backstage with Solomon Kline and the Edgecrusher standing just behind the curtain. The Edgecrusher is still wearing Jay Fetu's ring gear. He stretches his shoulders, then peeks out toward the ring. He turns to Kline with the confidence of a man who knows what's about to happen will be studied by future generations of wrestlers. MEEC: Lesson four is all about mic work. If there is one thing I learned from the 2000s, it's that everybody loves when a wrestling show starts with forty minutes of guys standing around talking at them in the ring. It's called a town hall. Anybody can go out there and yell. A town hall? You gotta control the room, let things breathe, make 'em really lean into it. Kline: I've never once seen you do anything close to a town hall. Most of the time you're just wandering around backstage messing shit up. MEEC: That's because I know it wouldn't be fair to the other, non-Main Event wrestlers. Kline: You're so kind. MEEC: And smart. The Edgecrusher taps a finger against his temple. MEEC: And knowing is half the battle. The Edgecrusher turns and steps through the curtain before Kline is able to respond. ******
With both men in the ring, Edgecrusher takes his time and walks a slow circle. Surveying the crowd, he plants himself in the center of the ring with Solomon leaning against the ropes nearby. The Edgecrusher raises the microphone to his mouth. His thumb rests just below the power switch. The switch is in the off position. He begins to speak. Nothing comes through the arena speakers. Edgecrusher's lips move steadily with his measured opening. He gestures towards the audience with his hand, inviting them to agree with whatever point he is making. Somebody in the front row cups a hand around their ear and leans over the guardrail. The Edgecrusher nods at them. This is apparently the response he wanted, and he returns the gesture, then gives a Hulk Hogan flex. The Edgecrusher holds up one finger. He has another point to establish. A second finger joins, quickly followed by a third. He pauses and lowers the microphone. He lets those three very devastating points sink in. The arena's ventilation system can be clearly heard humming over the murmur of the confused crowd. The Edgecrusher smiles and brings the microphone back up to his face. He launches into the next tirade with renewed vigor. His free hand swings wildly through the air. He points up the entrance ramp, then down at the canvas, drawing a distinction between something happening back there and something happening right here. Kline, finally deciding to step in before the crowd completely turns on them, steps forward. The Edgecrusher raises his hand to stop him without looking. Kline shrugs and leans back against the ropes. Edgecrusher begins pacing. Whatever he is saying requires ever-increasing amounts of floor space. He leans across the top rope and addresses an entire section of the crowd. Several people motion towards their ears and shake their heads. One person shouts out, calling EC a "fucking idiot." The Edgecrusher agrees with the shouting fan and turns back toward Kline. He gestures to the crowd as though they just proved his argument for him. He places his free hand against his chest. His delivery appears to become personal. He furrows his brow and looks down. His head shakes, and he spends several minutes speaking with the intensity of a man revealing something difficult. Edgecrusher suddenly snaps his head up, thus ending the personal section of the Town Hall. He jabs a finger toward the camera in a threatening fashion while talking directly into the microphone. His face reddens, and a vein stands out on his neck. He appears to be shouting now. He retreats back to the center of the ring, pulls off Jay Fetu's vest, and flings it into the corner. This gets a cheer because everybody is desperate for something to happen. Edgecrusher spins towards the cheering section and points at them in agreement. The Town Hall begins to build momentum. EC counts on his fingers again, appears to lose count, and starts over again. He mimes holding something small between his thumb and forefinger, sneers at it, then stretches his arms far apart. Small things bad, big things apparently Edgecrusher. The Edgecrusher turns back to Solomon and points at him emphatically. He claps him on the shoulder, then turns back to the audience again, pulling everybody into a declaration nobody actually heard. Solomon gives a restrained nod just out of politeness. EC releases him and storms toward a corner. He climbs to "Bret's rope" and leans forward, delivering what appears to be the loudest part of the Town Hall to the upper seats. His free fist rises high overhead. He holds it there, just staring out into the crowd. A few people raise theirs back in hopes that playing along will hurry him up. Satisfied, he steps down from the ropes. Breathing hard, he walks back to the center of the ring, brushing his dreads back and visibly composing himself for the big finish. He raises the microphone one final time. His delivery is slow. He points at the canvas, then to Kline, then himself. EC turns toward the hard cam and mouths a final sentence with deliberate emphasis. Every word seems to have its own punctuation. He lowers the microphone. Silence. Edgecrusher stands motionless, allowing it all to sink in. From somewhere in the crowd comes a single cough. EC nods and turns to Kline. He offers him the microphone with a small, satisfied smile. He leans in and whispers to Kline as he takes the mic. MEEC: Follow that. |
